Grooving to the Sunday beat

Who can resist this face?!?

alisonI can’t either. The lady possesses an inherent persona that’s bound to cheer the glummest of glums up!¬†The brains behind the brawn party made a smart move in kindly asking Alison to be the interviewee today ūüėÄ . This is bound to be interesting..

1) What is your happy place?

These days, believe it or not: our front¬†porch. I’ve noticed myself eagerly stepping out –¬†to catch¬†a glorious sunrise or bask in the soft winter rays, in a bid to thaw out¬†–¬†more often than ever before. sunrise

2) What are you wearing right now?

My fave worn-in skinny jeans, my fave worn-in pumps, my fave worn-in T. Hmm, I’m sensing a pattern. Well what can I say? I’m feeling kinda “worn in” and¬†my search for comfort¬†is basically¬†reflected¬†in my choice of clothing.OOTD

3) Cookies or cake?

Not too long ago, I had NO idea at.all. Yes really. Following plenty of trials which involved plenty of both cookies and cake… I have concluded that cake/muffins will always have my heart.Custard cake

4) Which chore/errand do you despise the most?

Packing the dishwasher… the only house chore I carry out on a daily basis. Is that pathetic? I feel as though I should be vacuuming or something ūüėČ .

5) What is the most daring thing you’ve ever done?

That would be the time I was dramatically inspired by a movie and on impulse, put the action into play:¬†riding an untrained¬†equine without any tack or gear, dressed as a cowboygirl. The ending involved a human wallowing in mud. It was only hilarious due to the fact that I didn’t break anything.Flickapicture source

I should add, that after working at it.. my mount and I had the potential to star in our own movie ūüėČ .

6) Brag and tell us one thing you love about yourself!

I appreciate that I’m at a place where I don’t really concern myself about others opinions; I’m not easily embarrassed¬† by my actions.

7) Now tell us one embarrassing fact about yourself.

I can be quite a loud human “bean” – especially out shopping. I do not¬†consider that as embarrassing in the least; however I’m pretty certain my company doesn’t always feel the same way hah!

8) Name three things on your nightstand.

Foot butter, hand cream, lip balm among others…

9) You can ask a famous person one (and only one) question. Who is it and what is your question?

I am risking sounding mind-bogglingly loony, but..¬†I don’t really know “famous” people. That does seem ridiculously contradictory yes. For the purpose of being a law-abiding citizen; I’d ask the DOC –¬†how does she find life as royalty?Katepicture source

10) Would you rather live in the breathtaking mountains or on a gorgeous tropical beach?

As much as I adore the beach for long walks, and¬†enjoyed many a stay¬†close by…¬†I’d choose the mountains – if only for the fact that I’ve never gotten to experience it as yet.

Are you easily embarrassed?

Random, yet necessary: will you/do you scream and cry at the sight of a monster cockroach??

Spilling it on Sunday with Spoons

I am ridiculously¬†claustrophobic about how deep and deadly the lady at Spoons is attempting to spill with the wallaby man who invented the Sunday extravaganza. Truth be told; upon reading Monday’s brain unfolded a fascinating sequence: Resident LCP is hosting! Squeee *happy dance*, I’ve got to attend. Question,, 3..uhm. Don’t ask me why! I’ve always admitted to being a complicated creature. Perhaps as much as I¬†long to share.. I have an automatic reaction of instinctively clamming up; some part of me wanting to hold onto a sense of safety in keeping hidden. Bull, I tell you! And we all know – as long as there’s a fear or reluctance – all the more reason to do it.

1. If you had to move to another country, where would you move and why?

Ok so I actually long to travel the world at some point in life.. but one country from the list I’m lusting on: Germany. I’d¬†get to¬†hang with this girl, stumble upon free Lindt and see actual snow in winter. Only matter of concern.. the dreary, wet¬†weather there as off recently!?

2. Would you rather live in the country or in the city?

Despite my eagerness to travel the world¬†and lose my identity I admit my living circumstances are ultimately.. perfection. I’m in a hybrid of country slash city. Country enough to have cattle roaming the roads on occasion, empty veld fields and forests, and squeaky clean air. Numerous shopping centres nearby fulfils whatever city slickiness I can possibly crave.¬†I would therefore conclude; I am happiest somewhere in between the two.

3. If you could try out any job for a week, what would you like to try?
Sleuthing! Kidding. Seriously? I would maybe sorta really love to intern at Vogue a fashion magazine. Is it considered egotistic that I believe I am gifted with a creditable fashion intuition despite certain humans disagreeing.

4. What are the first 5 things you do when you wake up in the morning?

Hmmm, let’s see. We’ve got an esteemed bathroom appointment.. a wash up.. morning prayers.. coconut oil meet mouth. How many was that? Dang, 4. Oh then comes the breakfast prep.

5. Tell me your deepest, darkest secret. Or at least something that most people don’t know about you.
¬†Amandaaaa! Ain’t no way am I going to be revealing any deep, dark secrets (I have too many). BUT I am not going to be a spoil-sport either; most people – I believe – are unaware of the fact that I am hopelessly, remarkably indecisive.

Secrets Exposed - 101 Blogpicture source

6. If someone asked you to give them a random piece of advice, what would you say?
Floss your teeth every day and don’t attempt to eat undercooked potatoes.

7. What are some of your favourite books?
The Fearless series by Francine Pascal (the lady also has Sweet Valley High under her belt!) is my number 1 favourite among favourites.

Jane Eyre – a classical love. And ohmygoose!… The Silver Brumby books by Elyne Mitchell: gahhh fabulous works of literature most certainly.

picture sourcesilver brumby

8. If you were going to write a book, what would it be about?
I’d have to decide; either a 10,000 page manual on trying to understand “me” – which granted, would be quite the challenge, given I don’t “get” me the majority of the time. Or a fiction bringing wild horses into play. Hey, maybe I could incorporate the two: something to the effect of – a wild horse assisting a deranged, slightly lost soul to finding herself.. fictitious, but¬†it happens¬†. Would you read it??

9. Name three things hanging out in your fridge door.
Uhhh.. let me take a quick peek.¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Okay.. milk, honey-mustard dressing (which I was unaware of and am now seriously contemplating on having a taste), and Nando’s hot¬†sauce.

10. What do you want to be remembered for?

My love of coffee and desserts. Being me Рpassionate, loyal, annoying.

Spill It Sunday #2 with Jen

Arman is all about getting us to spill our guts out. On a Sunday no less. Throw in the assistant master-mind of another groovy blogger and we’ve got a really good party going; double the trouble double the fun. Spill-it-Sunday

1) I am coming to visit! Where would you take me and what would we do?

Is this like a one day thing?¬†Let’s assume it is, because I would get a teeny bit fed up with having personal space invaded and all that jazz if it carried on longer. I’ll warn you though; I am an utterly despicable-y slightly dullish human. I’d also like to give you -my opinion- of the best experience my parts have to offer. ¬†Ok so I like to start sleeping in. After an energizing breakfast, we hit the road: the nearest game reserve that offer 3 hour trails on horse-back. The magicalness that is sitting astride a well-trained equine within touching distance to zebras, and close enough to see every wrinkle on free-grazing white rhino the size of a tank…is something that cannot be aptly described in words.

picture sourcewhite rhino ¬† Followed by a tour of ALL THE COFFEE SHOPS (well my favorites anyway). We’ll ¬†partake of our cities’ best – apple crumble, chocolate cake, lemon meringue pie, brownies…all while overdosing on caffeine.. chocolate cake gingerbread latte A walk on the beach… beach Then home to Mum’s bread pudding before parting goodbye.. pudding Sure you might feel a little sick-ish for the next day or so..but you’ll heal don’t worry.

2) What is the one thing you never leave the supermarket without buying?
Bananas. Always bananas. I would love not mind if my household developed a sudden aversion to bananas…but sadly, that doesn’t look like it’ll happen anytime soon.
3)When I say burpees, you say…
(With all due respect to burpee lovers) Blegh!
Okay, I’m getting a wee bit dramatic. But this was too funny – I couldn’t resist! The truth is: I have never committed to carrying out a formal burpee. I just don’t see myself bouncing back and up without pulling a neck tendon and hurting myself…yet.
4) What is the first website you check in the day?
Usually wordpress if I’m chipping away at a post. Or internet banking. Sometimes …this one¬†:tongue out: .
5) Tell me about one act of kindness you have done recently?
Errr, this is a tough one.¬†Kidding. Maybe…it depends on how you define kindness. But to be specific, I’ll pull out one from yesterday: complimenting my sister on a great outfit.
6) You have a carton of eggs, what would you make with them?
I’d scramble two right now – for lunch. Two tomorrow…and so on.
scrambled eggs
7) Tell me about a sight you have seen that took your breath away.
Eeek. So dang many instances! Two that demands to be mentioned: Happening upon a full grown sleeping black mamba under our lapa bench. So beautiful, so deadly.
Ok make that one; the other that I can never get out of my mind is too rather dismal for this occasion.
8) You’re an elephant, what would you never forget?
Birthdays, anniversaries..the like. I am absolutely ter-ri-ble at remembering to even set a reminder or make a calendar note. And I can’t understand how it is I have no close friends…there yer go!
9) Reveal to me a ‚Äėslang‚Äô word or term that you use where you are from, and what it means!
Ludjah = exhausted beyond sensible words. That’s more of an inside joke than “from our parts”..but I love it way too much not to share! <-ooh ooh, another act of kindness!
10) Tell me a corny joke!
Uhhh, wha?..I’ve never told a corny joke in my life *sob* !¬†Why did the chicken cross the road? There’s something that goes like that right…only I don’t know the answer either :p .

Spill It Sunday #1 Breakfast!

My first Spill It Sunday! Eek. I’m nervous, it’s like first day of school all over again. Wait, we’re talking about the extravaganza held by¬†Potato King. Naahh, I’m not nervous. Just bloomin’ excited! I bet I’ll be smiling for the rest of the day; consuming¬†and discussing the magicalness that is¬†breakfast will do that I suppose.

1. What is your classic go to breakfast of choice?

I could answer this blindfolded; oatmeal. I seem to rotate through oatmeal grooves:

chocolate eggy oats

Butternut squash cinnamon raisin boatmeal

Coconut milk o.oats

2. Favourite sweet style breakfast?

If this is being asked, I dread the follow-up question. There¬†is¬†only sweet style breakfasts for me…but I should know better to never say never. I couldn’t choose one in particular, but if there’s nut butter/chocolate, fruit and some grain – I reckon it would make it on my love list. Oh and I’m on board with having legit desserts for breakfast. Yup, 10am sugar-crashes have happened.

milk tart

3. Favourite savoury style breakfast?

You joking mate! This. is illegal. Buuut, now that I think about it, a toasted cheese has the potential to pass. Even better if I can throw some berry jam in there ūüėÄ .

cheese sandwich

Can we just take a moment to acknowledge the gloriousness that is White¬†Cheddar cheese. I have always adored Cheddar, but all my life I was ignorant of “White” cheddar! Cue an instant hernia when I took the extra second to actually appreciate every name of cheese at the store and beheld my now favorite. All the flavor of cheddar with a dose of extra creaminess <3.

4. Share a breakfast recipe you are a fan of- It can be your own or another bloggers!

I am kinda obsessed with my oatmeal bowl of late.

oatmeal- breakfast

5. Strangest breakfast you’ve ever eaten?

Goodness me, I’ll never forget that fateful day on holiday – the only time strange is “cool” – when I consumed a toasted chicken/pesto sandwich for *gasp* brunch¬†a late breakfast. It would have been enough to ascertain that I had gone bonkers…but the -sweet- iced coffee on the side evened things out ūüėČ .

6. Do you have a typical breakfast routine?

Depending on the amount of prep breakfast calls for on a particular day, I’ll usually cook, then allow it to cool while I get some outside “stuff” completed. Unless it’s¬†pancakes..

Applie pie pancakeswhich can only be safely conducted in the AM¬†if¬†I am in a one of those incredibly stupefying, patient moods. And that has a tendency to happen once a year. Good thing pancakes makes for a fantabulous lunch then ūüôā . Oh, coffee! Unless I’m heading on a coffee date in the day, a hot mug of black coffee always accompanies breakfast. It’s equivalent to a morning hug; in the belly!
